I've reviewed mystery, fantasy, and a memoir this month, and looked at childhood nostalgia and social activism and the idea behind #bearedhen.
Next month is a specific month for me and mine. It is Chiari Awareness Month. Chiari, or Arnold Chiari Malformation, is a neurological condition caused by a defect in the spinal column. My husband has ACM Type 1, and has a higher than average number of symptoms. In light of Chiari Awareness Month, I will be posting a limited number of purple hens (purple is the color for Chiari awareness) with zippers embroidered on their backs instead of tails-Chiarians who undergo a decompression surgery as my husband has are sometimes called zipperheads, because the scar resembles a zipper. These Chiari-hens will be selling for $10, and the proceeds from their sales will go to Chiari and related conditions research through the American Syringomyelia & Chiari Alliance Project, along with a percentage of the orders on the rest of the website. I encourage everyone to check them out and learn about Chiari and the other conditions of that part of the human brain-neurological conditions are often "invisible diseases", and there is not a lot of support or research available on the treatment of these conditions.
